I went to the River at 3:00 today. Pulled up to my spot a little downstream from the I 95 bridge. There was a herd of boats on the river and the Shad were snapping. Two guys in a Jon boat were bailing them beside me and I was just barely catching. I notice they were both using silver spoons and a fairly quick reeling retieve. I switched over and it was on. In all my years of Shad fishing, I have never seen a day like today. I went as high as 22 straight casts catching a fish, then a cast that drew bites but no hook ups. I picked up my buddy at 5 at the ramp and then straight back to the spot. It was his first Shad trip and he is totally ruined. Castaught a herring, I put it on live on one of the big rods. It lasted all of 2 minutes before a 35 inch striper nailed it. Caught a few cats and then a nice striper nails a shad head, 39 inches and 24 pounds. Sweet! Its twin came by five minutes later and ate a gut pocket. I am going with my brothers tomorrow and a pal Friday. Get out and do it. They're here!
