Well when I was a kid, me and a friend of mine used one all the time to get bait. We would tie two old broom handles one on each end of the siene, go to a ditch or small canal you roll out what you need and one stays on the waters edge the other starts out in the water and work your way back up to the edge, draging the bottom. We would get alot of crawfish this way, which is very good catfish bait. I hope I explained it so you can understand. Good luck with it.

Like Rory said, you need a couple poles. A pair of hip boots, and a minnow bucket. I used to pull the sein and walk forward with a pole in each hand dragging the sein. Worked well for me. A trick is closing the sein off when approching the bank. If you don't do it right, you'll notice the fish escaping so you lean fast.
