You'll be in my neck of the woods. If you're on the Cherokee reservation, all you need is a tribal permit. If you're fishing below the reservation boundary, you'll need a state fishing license and if it's designated trout water (I don't think it is below the rez, but I'm not sure), a trout stamp. If you have a state comprehensive license or sportsman license, you're covered anywhere outside the rez. You still have to buy the tribal permit to fish on tribal land even if you have a NC license. But if you're fishing in the sections of the 'Luftee that are inside the GSM national park boundary, all you need is a NC or TN fishing license. Confused yet? :smile2: The Oconoluftee and its tributaries have some good trout fishing. the tribal waters are stocked, the National Park waters are wild trout. Trout are about all that's in the 'Luftee until you get to the very lower end near where it empties into the Tuckaseegee, where there are some smallmouth bass, also. There's a little bit of everything in the Tuckaseegee, including stuff that runs up out of Fontana lake: rainbow and brown trout, smallmouth and largemouth bass, muskellunge, walleye, white bass, rock bass (redeyes,) crappie, bream, redhorse, carp, channel cats and flatheads. I used to catch a lot of catfish where the Tuckaseegee runs into Fontana just below Bryson City.
