I have drained the fluid, was in foward gear and have the four bolts out of lower unit but it only dropped about 2" pulled on it some but nothing then shifted to rev and it dropped about 2 inches more so I think I need to disconnect the shift cable somehow but can't find where .I need some help what am I missing . Oh yea the reason I am wanting it off is to fix reverse .

I'll have to check to be sure but you shouldn't have a shift shaft to unhook. I would venture to say your drive shaft is corroded and hanging inside your crankshaft.
