I think if you count the number of rays in the fin on the lower side of the cat near the anal canal, you can cross reference it for an exact species.
I can't remember off the top of my head the numbers for each species of cat but in the past we discovered that the ray count in particular on the fin I listed can be the most accurate way of id'ing the fish. Hope this helps you. You may find in the archives a table for this type of identification!!

hey! that looks like a different kind of cat. like crazy said its not a white they will be white they do not have a hump nor do channels but blues do. What you may have is a hybrid blue-channel cat. there was a thread on here that said they were doing this and stocking them somewere. Definatly should check into this because that fish looks like one might look like. i will look cause i want to know.

    I say a blue.

One weird thing though, I don't know if that's a glare but our blues dorsal fin isn't as white like that one is.

I think the rays for a bue are 30 and over.

I've seen pics of the White Cat and the one shown in the pic, looks almost identical to this. Blue Cat? Doesn't appear to look like a Blue. Head is totally different, even though the anal fin is straight, like a Blue Cat. Could be a Hybrid Channel x Blue, which I have heard of.

    Very interesting!!

Blue Cat= 30 or more rays on the anal fin
Channel cat= 24-29 rays on the anal fin

Not overly convinced its a blue cat. I've caught alot of them all sizes in this lake and the mouth is real small on this cat and looks nothing like and blue I've caught in this lake.

I,d take it to the local fish & game office or the nearest hachery to you. They should have a biologist that can let you know for sure.
