I caught this last week on cured liver, what kinid of gar is this? its a really interesting fish.
The Spotted Gar has a shorter beak. Thats a Longnosed Gar. Thats a good eatin size.
yep its a long nose. they are abundant up here
The guys are right. It's a long nose gar, sometimes called a "needlenose" gar.
That is definately a spotted or shortnose gar. The only difference between a spotted and shortnose is that the spotted has spots on his head. IT'S NOT A LONGNOSE! A longnose even of that size would have at least a 6-7" snout and not have nearly the stout bill of that spotted/shortnose.
What we call a longnose gar.
you might be right hard to tell by picture.......http://www.floridaconservation.org/fishing/fishes/gar.html
yeah I have to agree with you 1000%....that things beak is too short, all the gar I ever caught were longnose, so I know exactly what they look like. my first impression on this fish was shortnose when I saw it.
id say shortnose , the ones i catch here in ky on the ohio river have much longer noses than that one
oh yeah. shortnose. catch em all the time
