Installed a new depth finder on my 16 ft. jon boat. Mounted the transducer between the chines and down below the bottom of the boat by 1/4". At slow to mid range the thing works good at 3/4 throttle to wide open it loses signal. Its a Lowrance x96 unit.

It is sometimes difficult to get a high-speed reading on aluminum boats, especially if you have rivets on the bottom. You can try moving it around a few places or just get it the best you can and live with it. The farther you stick it down in the water will help out but you are also asking for trouble if you hit a stick etc. because you will likely break off the bracket, even with a kick-up style.

    Good luck.
