yeah start there or for 20 more dollars(i understand a budget) you can get an uglystik the model number is BWS11000120 its rated for up to 12oz even though i say 8 is the max. hope this helps you out the only other thing i can think of is set aside a couple of bucks here and there and then pull the trigger on something like an oceanmaster (120 retail) if you do that i can promise you 2 things first you won't be disappointed and it would be worth the wait.

Are you looking for a casting or spinning rod ? There are a bunch of 12' spinning rods under $50.00, but not any 12' casting rods that can handle 6oz and bait that I am aware of for under $50.00. If you are talking about fishing the Alton dam, you will do fine with 5 or 6oz sinkers.

daiwa makes a 12' beefstick that's cheap and it's fiberglass. The thing about long fiberglass rods is they are heavy. It isn't so noticable in a shorter rod. I have one, it's tough enough so far. I cut my handle down a bit, I think it was too long.

You may want to look at the Meat Hunter rods. I have heard they are nice and the price is right, but shipping is a little high unless you live in Oklahoma.
