well the rod is new anyway
i bought a 9 foot medium heavy king kat pro casting rod on cabelas for 20 bucks
iv read a thread on here and it seemed some people loved some people hated
but the cats im cursed with catching i could use anything :) hope thatll change though,id be happy just to have a fish on that could break that pole
i also got a shakespeare tidewater 50A on ebay for 21 bucks
i know nothing about this reel but for the price on a big traditional caster i took the chance
ill post back on how they perform . ( at least how they sit in a holder waiting to get a bite)
should both be here in a week or so

sounds like you got a pretty good rig for the price you paid. I hope you get to tangle with a fish big enough to bend it over into the water.
