hey yall, i've just started hunting for flatheads a couple of weekends ago, and with all the info on here and the help from everyone, i was able to get my first flatheads... they are pictured in my new avatar. the on in my right hand was about 9 pounds and the one in my left hand was just at 13 pounds... they were quite a fight on rod and reel, it was a blast.. they were the only 2 that i got all weekend, but it was worth the fight... i was using live bluegill on the bottom, they had about 2.5 feet worth of leader to swim around on. i had my drag all the way loose on both rods... after sitting there for a while, fishing only 10 feet from the bank i hear the bells on my rod tip jingle just a little bit, so i start watching... i walked up to the pole and shined the light upwards to look at my line... to my suprize the line was moving from right to left, the fish was swimming... i was using 5/0 j hooks, so i knew i had to set the hook good... all of a sudden my drag started crankin out line... i knew i had him... i grabbed the rod and held the reel spool and set the hook... then when i knew he wasn't gettin off the hook, i started tightening the drag... then i fought him in... 10 min. later, i was weighing a fish at 13 pounds... just as soon as i got him weight, my other pole which was about 15 feet off the bank, started crankin out drag... got that one in and he weighed in at 9 pounds and 4 oz... i was tearin up some channels all weekend on a little 6 foot medium action setup... now that is fun... lol... broke the tip on that rod when a 10 pound blue grabbed my shrimp... all in all, it was a blast of a weekend.
