I finally did it, caught a Flathead on rod and reel. My favorite bait is live bluegill because there is always a chance for a big flathead to find my bait. I catch a lot of blues but this is my first flathead. I was fishing wednesday evening, a week ago, before the Missouri gathering. I was fishing freshly flooded tember in front of our houseboat. I threw the casting net and came up with shad and a few bluegill. I started with a live shad and twice I had a short run and lost my bait with no fish. I next baited uo with a live bluegill and it was a repeat of the first strikes. A little longer run and I felt the weight of the fish but he came off. I baited up again with bluegill and this time I got him. I'm not sure what ate the two shad about 5 or 6 inches long and the first bluegill of 4 inches but I'm sure it wasn't this guy. My flathead weighed 6.2 pounds but it was a flathead an i was very happy. I caught him at 8:30 pm. 1. Me and my 6.2 lb Flathead. My PB Flathead but plan to upgrade soon. 2. View off the dock in front of our houseboat. The water was up 16 feet at the time.
