Well this is my first custom rod. This is a mega cat rod…. just what I wanted. If you want to see this blank in action go to youtube type in giant catfish look for the third one down with a man in a boat. Here is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7nNwWw5MDE

I was building this with master rod builder Mark Crous, this man is a legend in the rod biz. What a pleasure it was working with him and learning from him.

I plan on baptizing this rod with a shark fishing trip to Charleston SC next week.

These are the components I used.

Harrison blank (Block Busta Big Cat 8 ft.) Fast action and heavy power.
    Alps reel seat
    BlueZirconium guides from Batson

Very Nice! I have built a few myself so I know the kind of time and effort you must have put into something like that. Great joy comes from using something you built with your own hands.

That thing looks amazing! I want to build one but I am not sure what to look for in a blank or guides. Roughly what does it cost to make say an 8 foot 2-peice casting, MH fast action? 150$?? 200$??

Yah that is about what I have in this rod and a whole lot of time. The thread work took me hours....lost count. A few about building your own, you know exactly what you have, no guess work on components. Two the pride of doing it your self, and the confidence in the rod that comes along with building it your self.

I might do another this winter?? a super light rod for trout, How about 2.5oz total for a 7 foot rod. The blank for this thing is insane light.
