I pretty much fish exclusively for bass and carp.Strictly for fun and relaxation. So I found this new lake by my house that despite living in the area for 14 years I never knew existed.I planned on fishing for about 5 hours today since I had the day off.So i got there around 8am,spent two hours looking for bass, nothing.I carry an extra pole with me to hook up carp while I fish for bass.At some point I hooked a bluegill and he completely swallowed the hook.He was a goner for sure so I figured I'd give catfishing a shot at this place.I cut up the bluegill, left my line loose so I'd see when they take it.I only have J-hooks in my box so I figured this was the best method.Long story short I had a blast reeling this guy in.Any thoughts on weight? He was 23in.

Congrats on the channel cat. My #10 class cats are usually around 26'. That might help ya in guessing the weight. I would say around 7Lbs on that fish.

I'll probably use my light rod for cats from now on instead of using it with corn for carp.Around here bass are a lot more plentiful than good size cats.I just plain enjoy fishing for anything though.

Congrats on your first channel cat, it looks to me that it could be around 5-7 lbs.
