I am new to cast netting shad. I have a couple of questions on where are good spots on the Muskingum river to get them? Are you throwing in fast water or slack water?

    Thanks for the help.

not real sure on the whereabouts on the river itself, but like Aaron said, dillon dam is an excellent place to get bucket fulls usually and is only 10-20 minutes from the river itself. you coming from westerville would be ideal stopping by there on your way to the river first....rollo

So it sounds like you don't throw much in the muskingum river? Looks like Dillon is the hot spot. Do you throw at the spillway or marina? I usually fish around the riverside park area.

right there at the spillway off the highwall.....you probably won't be the only one down there catching shad. before i could throw a net i would go down there and someone would be kind enough to fill up my freezer bag with shad. If they're in there it shouldnt take but a couple throws.

What size cast net do you use? I have a little 4 footer.

lol.......whichever you're comfortable throwing i guess. I use a cheap 6 footer from wal-mart. you're 4 footer opens up to an 8 ft diameter....that should be fine. if they're in there thick it should only take a couple throws.
