Took the wife out for short trip sunday evening (8PM-1AM)..........caught 1 flattie (25lbs) on live bluegill and two channels. BUT my wife hooked into a monster.........once hooked it start running all over the river (she couldn't turn it) and I was yelling at her to keep it out of my lines; she replied "I can't" as I laughed at her she handed me her pole to help. OOPPS  so I tighten the drag all the way down and tried to bull dog it in, got it to the boat but couldn't get it off the bottom. It then decided to swim under the boat......pinned her rod to the side of the boat and snapped 30lb big game like it was thread. Exciting but wish we could have gotten it in for her. Quote of the day she said "that's almost as fun as pushing buttons at the casino's". Now she understands why I hunt flatheads as often as I can....................

There you go Dave, you're gonna have to use some of you're stimulus money Uncle Obama sent you and buy some 80 or 100 lb power-pro, lol.
Great story, would have liked to have seen pics of that one.

Skip, Funny thing is that is what we use on all of our reels but his wife likes to use her own poles. Who would figure?? They might just know what rod to hit to give them the best chance to get away?????

For a fish to just up and break 30lb line it had to have been a 40 to 50+. I bet she's kicking herself now. You don't get that many chances every year to hook a big one. I'd take her aside when she's in a good mood and suggest heavier line lol.

As long as the rod was flexing we were fine but as soon as that fish pinned the rod against the boat the flex was gone we were done. Slowly stepping her up to bait casters, she was using one of those Wal-Mart catfish specials (closed face spinning reels). Next time I might barrow Bryan's (BGcat) E-Cat with the Calcutta or Abu 7000 and 80# power pro (in the boat then)...............lol
