One of my buddies went to Mountain Island last weekend and drifted for a couple of hours near the hothole and caught one fish. It was a 15 lb. blue.

been to mt island a few times with decent luck under the dam, but havent been recently. mt island is a hard lake to fish if youre not familiar with it. it has lots of shallow areas that arent really marked well so just be careful

If you put in on Hwy 16 go upriver to either Gar or Mcdowell Creek. There is bait in the backs of both with more in Mcdowell. Gar has some great pinch points and long points and if the fish are in there can be lots of fun. There are numerous flats in the main channel of the river that one can drift and do good. Have been having luck on cut bream and perch. Cut shad is a pain as the perch will bother you. Large whole gizzards are excellent if you have them.
