Several years ago a friend of mine bought a 9.5 outboard from a pawn shop with the title. He never used the motor so he never had it registered in his name. Now I want want to buy the motor for my father-in-law so I can get mine back from him. Would we have problems getting the motor registered in my father-in-law's name?

    Thanks in advance,
    Willie

You can inquire through SCDNR about the title. There is a form to fill out for a title search, but I'm not sure what info goes on the form. If you have no idea who owned the motor before, you will have to do the search. If the title from the pawnbroker is still on hand it will make things easier.
Go online at http://www.dnr.sc.gov/boating/boatingforms.html for forms, info and phone numbers.

My brother ran the Pawn shop and it has since been closed down. I will try the title search. Thanks
