just purchased a 1995 9.9 mercury. took it out and it idles perfectly but when i put it in forward and give it some gas seems like its just not getting any gas. when its idling it sounds great, i tried some new gas and oil which is 50:1 sound right? Does this sound like a carberator? I'm taking it in hope it doesnt cost to much. any advice would be great. thanks guys

It does sound like a carb problem.

The only other symptom I ever had like that with a 9.9 merc was that the exghaust was choked full of carbon build up, and it couldn't breathe.

Caused by too much trolling. Had to pull the power head and chisel it out of the exhast tuner.

Fuel pump maybe? Did you try squeezing the bulb while trying to go. maybe its running out of gas in the bowl. may have a hole in the gasket and just picking up enough gas to idle
