I just heard a report of a 60 something pound Flathead being caught recently from the Chattahoochee River above West Point Lake. Anyone heard anything about such a fish?

Paul, I have not heard of such a fish, I do know there was some guys from Troup Co fishing up this way for the last few weeks (set hooking) that had large numbers but not sure of the weight. I havent had one over 25 in the last 3 or 4 weeks but that is due to less fishing and the rise and fall of the hooch like it was tide waters on the Ga coast, I will do some checking with the other locals that fish.

Nope, I heard about that one too, this was a Flathead and was caught in the river above yellowdirt.

I have shook every bush between us and nothing but the same stories I here every week but no fish. We all know that one can look huge in a pic but the story stops when the scales come out, I will bet you there is some that size between us and there shaking in fear because I took the new Triton Jet on it's first run yesterday.

Actually 60 lbs isn't all that uncommon when dealing with Flatheads:smile2:

I'd sure like to catch one of those not all that uncommon 60 pounders.

I agree with you on catching one or a few, the best I have seen this year on the scale was 42 lbs and that was in May.

I saw one a guy caught last wednesday up that way that weighed 35.12 on certified scales. He said he was going to try to get the record for the river.

What is the river record and where or what are the boundries that divide westpoint and the river?

That is a very good question. From what I hear, there is no record for the Chattahoochee River. I think the DNR considers the bridge in Franklin to be the line for being out of West Point Lake.

Others say the first shoals (Daniel's Shoals) above the bridge is the boundry because that's as far as the river is navigable north of West Point Lake (except for jet boaters like yourself). GON keeps the lake records. Maybe we should ask them.
