i fish this river just about every day for cats, dose anyone else fish this river and what do u think the best bait is for flats here?

I have been fishing the Mon all my life and have been fishing for flats for 3 years, if you want to catch alot of small flatheads I would say creek chubs and small suckers but if you want to get the big boys you need big bait, you will not catch as many but when you do it will be big. For the big ones I wouls say gills first (6"to 10") than big suckers as big as you can get them, also rock bass, drum, and trout. I got one last Friday on a 14" sucker, the fish did not play with it just grabed it and a slow steady pull with the clicker on, I let him run for about 15 sec than turned off the clicker and let the circle hook do the rest

ive been using crek chubs but so far the biggest thing ive got on them is a 5 lb snappping turtle, and a few big channels, havent had much luck on gills, but i need to try them again

Are you fishing from land or by sea, If by land try moving around some and find them, I have said this before flathead fishing is like hunting if you dont see anything what do you do, You move. If by sea look for quick changes in bottom structure, outside bend in the river and anything that thay can set behind. With the hot temps this summer and the water being so warm (84 deg) look for areas that are in the shade most of the day and anything that is puting O2 into the water

Fished the Mon sat night and got 2 Flats and 6 Chanels, still slow but with this week rain the river should be on this weekend

im going out to try this weekend ill let everyone know how i do, well that is if the river isnt to high and my fishing spot isnt under water

i went fishing last night and didnt catch a thing, i had a few hits on liver and one on bacon but didnt hook anything, anyone else been fishing lately?

anyone fish here, I started using this G**gle Earth program and it is kinda neat. You can sort of scout fishing spots from your computer.

never fished here but know of many good spots on the mon small town called west elizabeth has an abundant number of holes with easy access there are barges tied up and the big ones come out at night have caught several over thirty pounds like the guy said above big bait big fish I have seen his pictures in local tackle shop know hes out there catching them also .

i live in a town called webster not to far from elizabeth head theres some really good fishing down there by the locks, and that ariel pic looks familare but i never fished there

There is also good fishing not far from you in charleriol i have a spot on the monnesson side above lock four that is awesome this time of the year. check out pictures from the mon 40 and thirty nine pounders

Nice fish there, Mark. My husband grew up fishing on the banks of Charleroi, between the barges, and Lock Four. That is where he keeps telling me I need to go to catch "my big one". Since we live an hour from there, I think next year I'll get a PA liscence as well as my WV one.
