I am new to this area and am trying to land a BIG blue cat in the MO River. I have been a small river and reservoir fisherman, but the tactics I have used in with success were mostly for channel cats. Is live bait better than cut bait for blues? Do they hang around the wing dams, or around wood snags? Any advice would be great.

Check the Missouri River section-lots of info there.

I wish I were more knowledgeable and could help more, all I can tell you is live or fresh cut will both work. All I have caught have been small(under 15 lb) and about equal between fishing the channel and behind wing dams

Try fishing the holes just down from the wing dykes. I have had my best luck with cut bait (Asian Carp). Some guys talk about fishing the flats above the wing dykes, but I have not tried this yet. Doug gave some good advice, the Missouri River Section. Hope this helps and good fishing.

use fresh bloody cut bait when fishing for blues. I prefer shad (the bigger ones) and drum they work good but cut carp will also work.
