With the current trends in fuel prices skyrocketing, what are some the tips or tricks that you have to increase miles per gallon? Here are some of mine:

-Proper tire inflation, improper inflation can cause a 3-5% decrease in mileage
    -Tune ups
    -Proper weight oils
-Synthetic or synthetic blends thats all I run in my vehicles
-Clean air filter, dirty air filter causes the engine to use more fuel to make the same power
-Upgrade the air intake system on your vehicle (in the plans)
-Easy on and off the throttle, you aren't at the Indy 500 are you?
-Use the cruise control if you have it
-I switched to 87 octane from 89 and my MPG went up by 3.5-4 MPG (I don't understand it but it works for me)
-New spark plugs and wires the better the quality the better the performance
-Make sure your thermostat is operating in the proper range, too hot or cold can cause a negative effect on engine operability
-Car pool, I am in a car pool with 3 other guys from work, it works out great because we each drive once in our rotation at work

Any other thoughts, someone who is a mechanic please explain why my Jeep is getting better mileage with 87 octane versus 89?

That's movin' brother, I could lie and say that I have never ever driven fast at all, but that would be just plain wrong! I have buried the speedometer in my Ramcharger, it pegged out at 85! And just the other day I had my Jeep spun past 100, my wife would kill me!

    LMAO Cyclops......Here ya go

    3 Different accidents.

1st pic is where I was waved through to a gas station and a car swung around and nailed me. Totaled the Tiburon.

2nd pic is where a dog ran out in front of me and I swerved to miss and hit a curb.

3rd pic is 3 deer ran out in front of me, slowed down and thought they all passed. Well, 1 decided to make mad dash, could not slow down in time.

I do know that the computers in vehicles these days are programmed to run the best on 87 octane, so when you put a higher octane in the vehicle it runs differently. Unless your car is a high performance vehicle and it says, ( use premium fuel ) I would just use 87 octane. The only way I know of to use higher grade fuel correctly is to reprogram the computer for higher octane.

Hey, you gain a little by running the tires slightly over, 3 or 4 lbs. Ride is rougher but it works, drilling a few holes in the air filter box on the older models gives better air flow and adds a few mpg's. And def. run synthetics that helps everything...Johnnyelcamino
