Mercury Question

    I have a 80 hp mercury and want to know how old it is serial no. 3190779
    4 cylinder with blue stripes anybody know

    It appears to be a 72 The beginning serial number for 1972 was 3186263. Then there was a gap in the 80 hp. models until 1978 then the beginning number was 4831999. Unless I'm reading this wrong, or there are ommisions, They stopped making the 80 for awhile, and you have a 72'.

    Eddie that year is right as far as I can tell. As for the harnesss it is hard to find a new one What I have always done is replace the brittle wires with a new wire and put heat shrink tube and liquid tape on the ones I couldn.t replace.

    What they did to your size motor is added two more cylinders and called it a 115 tower of power.

    Thanks guys
    I have replaced the wires today and will check the switch box out tomorrow.
    The lower unit seems to be in good shape and the engine is clean the carbs will probably need cleaning but for the price (Free) I guess I got a good deal.

    I thought it was a 1972 or 1974 Thanks again.
