I have a new 175 optimax, I thought my dealer told me 10 hrs on the break in time, throttle up and down the whole time, I looked on the merc web site and it says 2 hrs.. any of you know the correct time? thanks!

I heard the new Mercs have a computer chip in them, and the dealer can tell if you broke it in the way your supposed to or not...If you didnt. Bye Bye warranty..Good Luck.

Matt said it all in a nut shell. It depends on what will keep you in the warrenty range. Do as the owners manuel furnished with the motor.
My self I alow a 2 hr throttle up and down and then on to faster things. I still use the extra oil until 10 hrs are up but the new tell tell will tell the story as she is operated.
