What were they biting? I tried anchovies, crawlers & turkey liver. Only got one bite on an anchovie. I left before the sun came out. Too cold for me. Lots of duck hunters shooting near you guys?

Minnows was the hot bait for the day Capt. We tossed out chovie, turkey liver, clams, shrimp. Some good bites on shrimp but the kitties loved live minnows:wink:

I would bet your fish taste better than those from nasty ol Clearlake. By the way I got a EM from a fella named Paul Lauderbeck from BOC wanting $$ for Star membership, is this legit

Star Members help Paul cover the overhead costs of running the BOC.
You are not required to buy a Star Membership to use the site.
If you follow the links he provided you can find out about the advantages of Star Membership.
Many of us who spend a lot of time and energy on this site help to support it with our donations. I don't have a lot of cash to spread around but I do try and buy a minimum one star every year.
    So yeah, it's legit.

Yes Jaime, Shad are legal to catch and use in most Ca. waters.
You must use them in the same waters you net them in (no transporting) and there are size limits on net openings and handle length.
Casting nets are Illegal in Ca.

are you using a bobber to fish the shad or just sit them on the bottom? I like to smash their head to get the juice out there and hook"m just below the dorsal and give them a toss.

Live shad works the best to me:wink: Under the dorsal or through the head between the eyes. When they die, fellet it and hook it on a pole.

Fish on bottom with a egg or pyramid sinker and 15-18 in leader.........

No bites at all from time Robb and Sean left until time we left at 7:30 p.m.

The two biggest cats went at 7.0 lbs. 25 1/2 inches
Second largest was 4.6 lbs. and 23 1/4 inches.
The five total cats (2 channel and 3 yellow) went about 15 lbs.

I've attached personal email address to Sean and all BOC bros.
I had a blast with Robb and Sean out there! What a crew!
Who woulda thunk cats bite minnows on the bottom in 30 degree temps?
When you email me, give me topic you want to discuss and let me know first name and that you are BOC. I tend to get to personal emails quicker.
I have good tips (and spots too).
Have you tried the Merced River near Ceres? Start a new thread?
