Well, the day started off with us having a real hard time catching bait. I only managed one shad, that was about 14 inches long and 3 carp. We figured we'd use cut bait, because the perch are in short supply in our pond right now. Anyway, My buddy Blake had a good run right off the bat and hooked into a really, really big fish. Blake is normally a bass fisherman, therefore he wasn't prepared to handle a big ol' fish on his tackle. He had 12 pound test line, and after struggling with this big ol' fish (I think it was a flatty, but never saw it) for about 5 minutes, the fish made a run and blake touched his line. Pow! There went that biggun. We were upset, but pretty darn excited all at the same time. We got everything rebaited and had to recast all our rods, since the fish swam through all but 2 lines. My buddy Mike was with us, and he was using a couple of my cat rods. Mike hopped up to get everybody another beer and I hollered at him & told him that he was getting a bite. He said "get it" so I did. Good thing I did, because after a few minutes, Blake lipped a 27 pound flathead for me. I've caught several in the 20 pound range, but this fish was considerably bigger. My scale said 27, but I really think he looks a touch bigger. Regardless, I'm gonna call him 27 and be darn proud of him. He took a piece of cut carp, and I caught him on a 4/0 eagle claw kahle hook. After pictures, he was CPR'ed to fight another day. I took the 2 smaller fish home and put them in the new pond. Anyway, here's a couple of pics of my fish.
