I try and fish as much as i can but havent had any real luck on the river this year. I know what to look for in the river, where there might be some good cats but i have no way to get there. I do not have a boat and everywhere seems to be private property. My dad and i drove down south of grand rapids to north turkeyfoot i think it was. Didnt have any luck there, but was wandering where some good places to access the river to fish. I live in perrysburg and dont mind if i have to drive a good distance, and im not asking anyone to give up there best spot im just curious to what some of the maumee shore fishing guys do. Thanks for anything!

hey,why don't ya go on the other side on the rt24 side you can park at turkey foot and then there are some other places a little closer to liberty center where the bridges are you can park just off the side of the road and then walk down to the river you can almost always catch cats by bridge pilings.oh what are you fishing for because if your fishing for flats, your gonna have to beef up the tackle your using, probably at least a 7foot med/med-heavy rod and a reel to match, since your in perrysburg stop at bass pro they have some okay combos that won't break the bank, now i use power pro 80lb braid and it only has 18lb diameter but will not break so you may want a mono leader about 30lbs.now bait we use live gills and small sheepheads we catch in the river usually a#4 or #6 perch hook and a nightcrawler then we just use the head and guts attach to the head of the sheephead.if your fishing channels just about any rod and reel combo will work with about 10lb line, usually use nightcrawlers, shrimp, chicken livers, and yes they're big enough ones to take the live gills.hope this helps any more ?'s just ask good luck.

just wanted to add when fishing the larger live bait your gonna want at least 6/0 circle if you use something larger then your gonna want a bigger hook and don't worry the flats can fit alot it that big mouth,so if you think your hook is to big your probably close or could go a little bigger.okay gotta go aa meeting at noon and its 11:30 good luck hope it helps if not ask more ?'s

anywhere in Defiance county are good spots..independence state park right below the dam is a great spot but you'll need really beefy tackle 8-10 ft rod.65 - 80 lb.test 8-10o gamakatsu octopus circle hooks.defiance local baits shops sell goldfish bout a buck a piece.for some odd reason a bait shop owner in wood county told me the flatheads are bigger around defiance county than they are elswhere in the maumee.

Oh and im really busy saturday so im sorry but i probably wont see you guys out there but let me know how you do, if you can. One other question i have is whens the best time to go for flats? Ive been reading around and it seems like night is better. Can i still have a good catch during the day then also?

well,dbtrail400 how'd u do this weekend,i did go all day friday caught alot of little channels ,and some drum small gills like only 2inches to small for bait,so got some goldfish for the nitetime hours got a painted, and a leatherback turtle and 1 channel about 4lbs then about 1:30a.m. it happen my rod was doubled over the rod holder so i grabbed it and it started peeling off line,so this went on for about 5mins,then it was in the net ended up 17lbs and cpr.maybe i'll figure how to post photos one day,not very good with computers or typing.peace
