Hi,
I am an avid catter from West Michigan heading down to visit a friend in Bowling Green, and we're planning on fishing the Maumee a couple nights. I've researched it a little bit and have found a few launches. One in Defiance, one in Grand Rapids, and maybe one or two by Perrysburg. I am just wondering which areas of the Maumee are considered the best. My friend does not fish so he has no idea. Also, I was wondering what type of baits are typically used. I usually use live bluegills for flatheads, but that's just cause I can get them super-easy. Any other advice on the river would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I've only been fishing the Maumee for about a year now, and haven't fished it outside Indiana, but for bait, blue-gill will work just fine, thats all we use over here. Creek chubs, shiners, and shad(if you can find them) are also good. I fish both live and cut, with cut seeing the most action.

Bring heavy duty tackle, heavy line, big hooks, and good tied knots. The Big flats in the Maumee will put them and you to the test.

I'm not sure about locations, but if you can spot some creek mouths on Google earth around the area you might be fishing, those should be good, especially if you can find one with some current. Unfortunately they might be spawning which may throw the bite off, but never the less it doesn't hurt to try. Caught 2 last night.

Good Luck and Happy Fishing,
Bryan

they are pretty tight lipped over defiance way but i know there are more bigger fish towards the dam. she is a very shallow rocky river so bring a small boat n motor.
