does everyone match the line weight to the rod rating....... people put 80 lb braid on poles and iwas just curious if the rods are matched to that

I have never tried to match line to rod, or reel rating.

It's not necessary to match the line to the rod rating especially if you match the drag to release the line at the rod weight rating.

But do people even do that....... I doubt it. I don't

The line size gives you a rough idea of what the rod can handle. If you have a rod with line size 4-10#, you would then know that it is a fairly light rod. Not the best choice for landing 50# blues on a regular basis. But a rod with a line size rating of 30-50# is a better choice for landing big fish. The action of the rod is also a guide to how it is designed to used. The 30-50# would be in the med. heavy to heavy range.
