I took the Katyak on her madien voyage Friday, June 29. This is the maiden fishing voyage (the first trip on the lake was a couple of weeks ago, with no fishing). The location is Lake Brittle, Virginia.

The first fish I caught: a 20", 3.5 lb. channel catfish.

The second fish I caught was a 11.5", 1.25 bluegill.

Not a bad day for the first day of fishing!

    Congrat's!

Looks like fun. You planning on taking her out on the Upper James?

Great looking rig Joel. I don't know if it would work down here though. We got gators bigger than that :smile2:. Enjoy and good luck on your next trip.:006:

Thanks! As far as the upper James...maybe, if the fish kill doesn't end up too bad.

As far as gators, it's interesting to note that fishing legend Jimbo Meador has been endorsing both Heritage and Native Watersports (both same company now), helping them design these kayaks for use primarily in the south. The Redfish, in fact, was designed for redfish fishing in mind! I've read that gators haven't been a major problem.

Hey Joel, I see quite a few kayaks fishing the marshes around Grand Isle Louisiana. It is a great area to fish for Redfish and is protected from the rough waters. You can put in right from miles of public roads.:006:

Use to fish Brittle pretty regularly a few years ago...I'm moving back to the area and getting a yak this summer. Lemme know if you hook into any of the flatheads in there...I've seen a few huge ones pulled out of that lake.
