I've heard some good things about using soap, so on a whim today I made up a batch (and went a little crazy with the ingredients). Here's what I used:

    2 bars Ivory soap
    1 tsp. vanilla extract
    1 tbsp Garlic powder
    2 tbsp bacon grease
3 beef bouillon cubes (melted down in a little water)
maybe a 1/4 cup old cheddar cheese (shredded)
    a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese
    and 1 fish oil capsule
also added a little water as it melted to achieve consistency.

Trying it out Saturday, I'll let ya know how it goes.

and man this stuff is stinky :eek:oooh:

I tested putting on a hook, and it was pretty crumbly, so I melted it back down and pulled apart some cotton balls and added them to the mix, hopefully as a bonding agent of sorts. Any other ideas?

I have heard fluffy old cattails works great for squishy bait and its often available where you fish.

The cotton balls worked for bonding it really well, the real test is Saturday.

I've heard that either work, and I can't find zote 'round here.

Ivory soap no longer has animal fat thanks to peta and the pc police. I am told that Zote soap is made in Mexico and has the animal fat....the main attractant.

I have heard that its not the actual soap that cats like but the large amounts of lard that soap is made from. Lye soap is basicly; lard, lye, and water. I have caught channel cats by pushing a sponge hook in lard that I mixed some anise in.

Caught 2 bass on it...and that's all I caught ALL night, I was using cut skipjack, chicken liver, and night crawlers. Just a bad night for fishing.
