i have a 25 fising barge. we keep it loaded prety heavy. has a merc 1999 90elpt 4 stroke, which does an ok job. it has always run in the 5000+/- 500 rpm range, even new and with nothing but 4 people on it. i am going to put a 14/10p on it to replace the 14/11p. do you think this will help?

    Help in what?

It'll allow your engine to run easier and will tach more rpm's. Should top out near 6000.

When you say barge, do you mean as in pontoon boat?
