I was digging through boxes yesterday and found two old reels that belonged to my Dad.

One is a Penn 209 the other one is a Ocean City 922.

Damm if these reels could only talk.I know they would have some good fishing stories to tell. And they are going to get their chance to shine again.
I spooled the OC with 30lb Gamma and it's going fishing this weekend with me.

Does anyone know anything about the Oc 922.

Its a casting level wind and what's neat is the drag is in the handle. You turn the handle backwards to give it drag. Then when you start reeling it tightens back up.

My guess is these reels have not been used in over 30yrs at least.

    That is awesome Tom.
Post some pics if you can, Id like to see those.
I have some of my Dad's old reels and his 14' Fenwick.
I use some of his reels that I use but I dont think I will ever use his Fenwick.
That rod has caught some fish, let me tell ya.
Its a 1 piece and there is no way to lock it up. If somethin happened to it Id never forgive myself.
When we'd get home from fishin he would always make me put it in the house. The only place it would fit was in the stairwell.:smile2:
I was always afraid I was gonna accidently break that rod. That would be worse than wreckin his truck.:smile2:
When I was younger he had a piece of 4 inch PVC bolted to the top of the truck and the topper. He would take the reel off and lock it up in there.
You could always see him comin a mile away.LoL!!

Here is some info I found

Ocean City Reels of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania operated from 1923 to 1968.

    The 922 was made from 1950 -1965

I have several reels that my grandpa used that I have put up in a display. I fine myself taking them out and just holding them at times and thinking of all the fish that they had caught.

I will take some picture's of them Kyle to let everyone see them.

I also have some old bamboo rods Dad made for snagging spoonbills.I will get some pictures of them.

A 14' is one big pole.I bet it doubled up when fighting them big blues he caught.Their worth their weight in gold..to us now!

if its the kind of reel i think it is it kinda looks like an over grown old school bass reel with the slanted front end... i think any ways . it was a good reel being about the same in gear ratio to the penn 209 and just as tough

that post reminded me of grand pa s rod and reel, I was at my uncles house 1 day and he asked me if I wanted grandpa s rod and reel, I said yea buddy, it was a cane pole with a shakespear 2030 on it, the eyes were tie wire wrapped around and twisted into eyes and the handle was eletrical tape. it was too cool someday it will hang in he trophy room, what small one there will be. I sure was proud:wink:
