Looper's Rig question...

2351 Views 11 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  little_fiddler
Most of my catting is done in large ponds/small lakes for eating-size Channels, and I'm thinking of giving dip/stink bait a try now that the water's good & warm.

I've read good things about the Looper's Rig, but I'm unsure which style (hook) to go with.

I'd prefer to stay away from trebles, since I do catch a fair share of Bullheads and soft-shell turtles (both of which I release) that I'd like to avoid injuring any more than I have to.

Any suggestions?

Bret you can put a small float on the leader line about 6 to 8 Loop
That's exactly how I do it when I want to keep bait off the bottom. But sometimes I put it even as close as 2 inches from the hook. It's really a nice setup, especially in real snaggy areas. My latest rig is two hooks on a 30 inch leader, one at the bottom, one about 18 inches up and a small wallyworld plastic bobber about 3-5 inches from the bottom hook. That way you can fish two different depths simultaneously, adjust the bobber as needed if you want to go higher / lower.
