I have seen HUGE schools of shad (at a glance they appeared to be threadfin) move past me as I bank fished before. Literally millions and they were all hitting the surface of the water so that, from a distance, it looked and sounded exactly like rain on the water. Today, I get a call from my boss on the Nextel. As he was passing my favorite lake, he saw the same thing from the road. Does anyone know what causes them to act in this way. It truly is impressive to behold (and I'll bet, even more fun to fish around the edges of:wink:).
