1978 Johnson 70 h/p motor,any help would be great.
is yours busted? or just bad bearings, gears?
In addition to what you have provided, we would need to know if it is a manual or electric shift. Big difference. Give us the serial number, located on the left side of the mounting bracket on the data plate.
I may have one will check in the morning Im in ark would have to ship it
Manual shift model number 70EL78C.
I believe the "EL" in the serial number indicates an electrical shift. Look on the left (Port) side of the motor, just behind the fuel pump. If it is manual, you will have a shift rod...move the throttle handle while someone looks in the general area. If you see a rod moving, your manual. If you see two wires going into the lower unit, I believe on the starboard side of the motor, its electrical. Big difference in prices. I'll send you a PM with some information I occasionally share with the members.
Lawerance that E l stands for electric start l is for long shaft.
