This picture was taken using a Motorola Razr phone!

My pop's took the picture and cut off half the Gar body!

But the Camera phone took a pretty good picture...for a carmera phone..

I was fishing for Gar, Catfish, Bass....I had 4 poles geared for each type of fish....its just the Gar got caught in the lure..
For Gar, I had a rope lure....

Congrats on the nice fish. Never would have thought a camera phone took that good of a picture.

For the gar, I used a rope lure....for catfish, some minnows and liver and for the bass, rooster tail...shad rattle bait... caught the gar accidently with the rattle bait.

Its some nylon rope that is combed out!! Its kinda like Barbie hair all frizzed out!!

the long-nose gar attack it and get their teeth tangle in the rope...
just make sure you take all the rope out of his teeth if you cpr so the gar can eat...

the thread in the gar fishing section has a detailed photo of the rope lure.. thanks

The concept of rope lures is the same as running two combs through matted hair, it gets stuck on every little strand...

Here's a nice picture to show you...quite extreme though...

Seen the same picture ....it doesn't take that much rope to catch the gars teeth....very little is needed...and it makes detangling a lot easier on both you and the Gar...

I release all the Gar....nylon teeth floss free...so they can eat and be on their merry way:big_smile: -

And not just from the nasty sunburn I got last week! We've been marking schools of gar in the Cape Fear River but haven't had any hook-ups yet, they are staying prettty deep still. I think that switching baits to menhaden is going to help a lot though. Seeing that picture has got me itching to catch one now!
