A white perch is just that, a white perch. We have White Crappie, Black Crappie, Yellow Perch, White Perch, Stripe Bass(Striper) and White Bass all in this state.

A White Perch looks a lot like a White Bass it just doesn't have the stripes that White Bass have, plus they don't get very big. I've heard people call Yellow Perch a lot of names, none of which I can spell.

Most Sunfish have several names they are called and I generally call them all Bream.

Now as for catfish 95% of the people around here call a Channel cat, a Blue Channel and that annoyes the crap out of me. It's either a Channel cat or a Blue Cat not both. White Cats get called a lot of things also, like government cat with I don't understand at all.

Chinquapin is the cajun name for the redear sunfish. Pollywog is a bullhead we also called them mudcats. The other two are bowfins. These are all names I've heard for these fish in sw La. Which is also where crappie are called white perch or sac-a-lait.
