One of my old striper bud's, Sam 'Rawhide' Newman, just called me on his cell phone and said he had a special guest on his boat. While striper fishing, a Blue Heron [IMG] landed on the bow of his Lund, next to the trolling motor. So Sam got a bait and threw it up front to see what the Heron would do, of course it bent that long neck down and got the bait. So far, Sam says he has given it three no. 30 shiners. This is a rare occasion for a Blue Heron to get any where close to a human on fresh water. The Heron did not move while Sam was talking to me on the cell.

Mac, ol' Rawhide may be on to something.

I have always said that if someone would train one of those dang birds to find fish for people, well, it would be a lot more like catching than fishin!!

I'm glad to see someone being nice to the birds. I always enjoy feeding the ducks and the gulls some squid at the beach. Herons are beautiful creatures, IMO.
