When I use livebait such as goldfish,shad ect do I still use a weight? and are these the best types of bait for trophy sized channel, and flatheads, because theres a new local baitshop that is hosting a catfish derby July 2-4 and Im not looking for a state record just a trophy sized so ill take as many tips as I can get, cause ive just been fishin for 10-20 inch cats, thx.

yes always use a weight. the size all depends on the type of conditions you have in slow rolling water you wont need as big as sinker as you would in faster water. but yes always use a weight just enough to keep your bait on or near the bottom. hope that helps.GOOD FISHIN!!!

also use bait thats local to the waters ur fishing like shad bluegills sunfish chubs suckers etc... i really dont use goldfish but its a last resort for me.
