I catch shad w/ a cast net for fishing w/ rods. I dump them into a 48 qt. cooler w/ a little salt and two aerators. Two hrs. latter they begin turning belly up. Any suggestions on keeping shad alive?

Change the water often and keep them in a round tank.
The water will get amonia built up in it if it isn't changed or at least filtered.
Shad tend to get in the corners of a square tank or cooler and push into it thus killing them. Using a round tank solves this part of the problem.
    I hope this helps!!!

Make sure you use pickling salt. The iodine in regular salt will kill the shad...W
