Hey welcome to the BOC one thing I have noticed it seems like to me cut baits works better than live bait, on some fish but if your fishing for flatheads I have better luck with live bait than cut, you can cut some off of the tail of a blue gill where blood will soak in the water and it will draw in some good size fish, and you should do pretty good hope this helps you.

I prefer live bait. But you can definetly catch them on dead bait I dont even bother cutting them. I was also find out where Shawn fishes!:smile2:

and I bet it's in the water too huh shawn.:eek:oooh:

Depending on the fish you are after will determine how or what you fish with live or dead.

Channels...... I would use dead or cut bait

Blues .... I think most prefer live

    Flats.... most people prefer live

I use live , cut, and dead because sometimes they prefer one thing over the others. We have caught them big flats on cut bait and they wouldn`t touch the live stuff, and other times they`ll hit live better than cut so try it all you never know what them flats are going to hit.

Flatheads- live(lively bait) gills, goldfish, bullheads, carp, etc.
Blues- live or FRESH cutbait like shad, alewifes, skipjack etc.
Channels- live or cutbait, stinkbait, blood, etc.

Channels probably have the best attitude when it comes to bait selection. they will sometimes bite on about any bait you throw at them.

Now for the best time to catch them. Anytime when you have the chance to go fishing!! Well for the most part..

    Thanks.
    Mark..

I agree with most on here, live for flats and cut or chicken liver for channels. Of course the most sure fire way would be to hide in Marks trunk and follow him:smile2:

I also agree with most of the replys, dead for channels an live for flatheads, I have caught some nice flattys on dead, frozen solid rainbow trout too......... I believe the flattys are opportunists they take what ever is available. take care an good fishin
