Live Match By Match: WWE Wrestle Mania XXiV

After shelling out the $54.95 for WM XXIV, I'll be doing another match by match review. Last year at this time I was in Detroit's Ford Field watching it live, what an atmosphere ti was.


Match #1: JBL vs Finlay -No DQ
WINNER: JBL
Rating (1-4) 3.5

This was a great way to start the show off! Surprisingly, this was an excellant match. JBL gets the win via the clothesline from hell.

 

Match #2: Money In The Bank-Ladder Match
MVP, CM Punk, John Morrison, Carlito, Shelton Benjamin, Chris Jericho, Ken Kennedy

Winner: CM Punk
Rating (1-4) 3.5



Highlights: Of corse, this had many highspots:
-Morrison did a moonsalt from the top rope to the outside on 3 men, while holding a ladder. (hard to explain)

-Benjamin had a ladder break while on it. (legit break, but he was fine)

-Carlito did a "Backstabber" from the ladder.

-Jericho did "The Walls of Jericho" from the top of the ladder on Morrison.

-Matt Hardy made a surprise appearance, doing his "Twist of Fate" from the ladder on MVP.

-A big Ught-Oh for WWE, there was rumored to be a plane doing a "fly by" w/ a banner fro TNA Wrestling tonight.... if you looked closely it was during this match. Sort of funny.

 

Match #3: Raw vs Smackdown Challenge
Umaga vs Bautista

Winner: Bautista
Rating: (1-4) 2

Bautista wins via "Bautista Bomb".

 

Match #4: ECW Championship
(c) Chavo vs Kane

Winner: Kane-new champion!Rating: (1-4) 2.5

* This match lasted 5 seconds, no joke. Kane slipped in from behind and choke slammed the champ. That's it, new champion.

 

Match #5-Carrer Ending (Possible) Match:
Shawn Michaels vs Ric Flair

Winner:
Rating: (1-4)


** This is bull crap. This should have been the main event or the next to last match. We're going to watch the freakin' "Bunny Mania" Playboy match AFTER this match?

I guess everyone knows that Flair is rumored to be done after this match. I've grown up watching Flair. Whoooo!!!!!

Rating on the Flair/Michaels match: (1-4) 4+

Winner: I'll Tell Ya Later!

 

"Match" (I use that term loosley) #6: "Bunny Mania"

Rating: (1-4), lets just go ahead and call this a 1 and not even watch it.

Winner: Who Care

Snoop Dog (yes that Snoop Dog) is the MC for this match, so yes, it's that painfull to watch (and hear).



BY THE WAY..... FLAIR LOST THE PREVIOUS MATCH. Now we've got this crap. The Michaels/Flair match was freakin' great by the way. I'm going to go wash my hair or something like that. It will be more productive than this crap.

 

Mathc #7-WWE Championship-Triple Threat Match

* I thought this was going to be the main event, I guess they are going with either the Mayweather/Big Show "match" or Edge vs UT.


Winner: Randy Orton (still champ)
Rating (1-4): 2

I have to admit, I was preoccuiped w/ something else and didnt watch this whole match. Seemed very weak to me though.

 

Match #8-Big Show vs Mayweather

Winner: no surprise, Mayweather.KO's Big Show by hitting him w/ brass knucks. :embarassed: Very lame.

Rating: (1-4) 1.5

 

Match #9-Main Event For WWE World Championship

(c) Edge vs Undertaker

Winner: Undertaker-New Champ!
Rating: (1-4) 3.5

WOW! hard to beleive but UT and Edge had a great match. UT held his own and wasnt carried by Edge the whole match either. Very good surprise.

 

Overall, I thought the best match was Michaels vs Flair. I was also blown away w/ how good the JBl vs Finlay match was. That had to be the surprise of the night for me.

Also, I want to add, that the part about Benjamin being on the broken ladder was not when he was thrown onto one, but rather when he was climbing up one. If you see the replay you'll notice when it happens. Also, it was sort fo funny becasue the lights went out for a few minutes during the "Bunny Mania Women's Match". (Too bad the whole Citrus Bowl didnt loose power during that one).

 

I meant that UT actually Edge move for move. I didnt think UT had it left in him but I was wrong.

Still a freakin shame about the match lineup. I think Michaels/Flair should have been in Big Show/Mayweather's spot, but I guess $ talks, right?
