I want to try fishing for flats in deep water one night in july say 60-70ft. Can bluegill survive that deep or do I need to use cut bait? Or for that matter would it just be a waste of time.

Your better off using whiteperch or herring. I have caught flats in deepwater off of cutbiat. Most of the time it's suspended off the bottom.

When fishing with a guide in SC he never fished live bait, bluegill. perch ect, over 28 feet. He said it would severely shorten life.
