Light fishing line for catching catfish

    was wondering what the lightest line you have used regularly to catch cats.

    I don't go lighter than 15 pound line for catfishing. I have caugth catfish on 4 pound test bream and crappie fishing though.

    Nothing less than 20#. Why take a chance on loseing one cause your line isn't strong enough ?

    In early spring right after ice out I use 4 lb test with chicken liver and no weight in the north coves of our lakes. Of course there is no snags around. Have caught several up to 10 lbs without any problem and can't recall losing a fish in several years. Line test depends on water conditions and average size of fish in the water fishing. Oh ya, good reel with great drag. Have found that in early spring they don't fight as hard.

    20 and just this day I have spooled two reels with 40 pound big game. It seems I didn't get much line on the reel but I'm going to try it.
