I have an ABU 6500CS Pro Rocket and a 6500C3. I also have an Okuma Classic Pro 202L and a Classic Pro 302L which are all levelwinds. I would love to remove the levelwinds on these reels. If I do, will I screw them up.
I would appreciate your input. Thanks

Not on the 6500's. Just put the parts in a baggie or other container, you may find you want to reinstall later.

It will not mess them up, but as others said, put the parts in a bag in a safe place as you may wish to re-install them one day. I have done the same thing before.

It's on the front of the reel. It's the part that goes back and forth to lay the line out even as you reel it in.

Okuma makes a 200C that is an open cage reel that goes something like $25.00.

Abu does make CT reels like the Blue Yonder, 6500 CT Chrome, and the 6500 CT Mag elite. Most of the guys that remove the levelwind cut out the guide for the levelwind and replace the levelwind worm with a bar.

Dave no one has asked the question. Why do you want to remove the leverwind? Are you trying to gain distance when casting? Is the levelwind giving you problems??????????????

I Don't Think It Will Hurt It But Like The Others Said I'd Keep The Parts.

The gain is so minute you won't even notice the difference. You should give it a try and you be the judge. Let us know the result. Good luck!

I need additional distance. I also believe the occasional birdsnest is easier to fix without the level wind. I only bank fish so distance is what I need.
    Thanks
