Have you had good experiences with braided leader vs. mono. I've been using on some rods braided main with mono leader. Some times I loose fish and the leader (30-35lb mono) is very freyed and I wonder what you guys thought of braided as leader.

I always use mono or Florocarbon for leader and I would think using braided line for leader wouldn't work too good. Most braided line get's fraid up more then mono. I would just use from 50-100lb mono. Works great for me, I've never lost a leader.

I used mono leaders last summer and I lost a few nice fish because of them, using braided this summer.

If you use braid go up in lb test.100lb braid is about the same diameter as 30 lb mono so the abrasion resistance will be about the same. The newer braids particularly Fins Deep Drop are far more resistant to abrasion than the early versions.I think the big mistake everyone made was trying to use to low a pound test. All thing being equal, more diameter equals better resistance.:smile2:

I use 50lb. Dacron leaders. Sometimes even 175lb. trot line leaders.( depending on the junk im throwing into) I have personally lost and have heard many a story from local boys around here about their mono leaders giving up before the fish does.

I use mono for my main and leader. I usually go with 20#Berkley Big Game (Green).

One thing to remember is there is mono fishing line and then, there is mono leader line. These are not the same, the mono leader line is more durable than the mono fishing line. Cabelas carries P-Line mono leader line, I also like the Sufix mono leader line.

Braid doesnt strech. Mono is better for a leader.
