i read a post in the flathead discussion earlier about cut bait for flatheads...
a lot of people said they prefer cut bait over live bait anytime of the year but i disagree...
i think live bait works best in the fall/spring with cut bait working best in the summer...

so i'm making a poll to see what everyone thinks..... the poll above lets you have multiple answers so you can vote for your favorite bait for each of the 3 flathead seasons....

Each an every night an every different water has a change on the bait selections. What's good one place may be total opposite the next spot. It is very likely live baits work an then you notice no bite, by changing to cut baits the bite is back on.

Unless I happen across some skipjack or mooneye or occasional carp or drum I use cut shad about 90% of the time.

I prefer what works and am willing to change baits until I find out what that is.

Use both with about the same results, current determines my presentation; slack water live is my choice because the vibration the baits gives off, medium current I use both and heavy current it's cut because the scent travels further and if you use live in heavy current all the
debris creates the same affect as the live bait would..............vibration.

It seems 50/50 for me all seasons in the Rivers so I will use both but in the Lakes it seems to be Live most of the time excepy maybe early spring.

Well I got my PB flathead on live bait in late spring/early summer, but got my 2nd best flat on cut bait in mid summer. Right now, I've been getting a few flats on live bait, so both cut and live work for me.

I usually fish a combination of live and cut bait any time I'm out fishing. Shad , bluegill and skipjack. I caught the 13#er in my avatar on a 5"bluegill this spring. My PB for the year so far.

I have not caught enough of them yet to realy tell, but i normally fish with both live, an cut. But so far i have had better luck hooking them on cut bait
