Finally went back out last night. Fished with bluegills the size of my hand, I kind of thought it was the dumest thing I'd ever tried. To say the least I "had" 12 big gills in a bucket and by 10:30pm I was out of bait. I hooked up with three dinosaurs, all 3 took me to the cleaners wrapped my line around some unknown obstruction in the water. As for the other 9 gills, they were mauled and pillaged while in the water. When I reeled them in they're scales were stripped, they were bleeding, a pretty greusome site. Although I didn't put any fish on the bank I found it very interesting to say the least.

Time to gear up! When you're fishing large baits, you need to have enough backbone in the gear to turn those beasts away from the snags. Sounds like you're into some good fish, I'm sure you'll land a whopper really soon. Keep at it.

    Tight lines.

Better night than I had, all I caught was two bluegill on crayfish.

Tried to use them as cut bait but no luck.

Sounds like you got into a bank or gar.

I'm pretty sure there aren't any gar in the river but it could have been muskie. I'm from Newport, where were you fishing on the river? I usually fish over in Giles County.
