Went out tonight to my favorite lake and got my biggest flathead of the year. Still not the biggest out of my boat but I'll take it:smile2: Caught it in around 4ft of water on a big live bluegill. Also, I caught it on my brand new Night Stick Pro rod. What a way to break in the new rod.

Congrats to you on your largest flattie this year!! That is a pretty good way to break in that new rod.

    Nice fish, congratulations!

Real dark one, too. Are most of the fish in that lake that dark?

(Seems like the fish in the SC rivers tend to be more yellow.)

Yeah, most of the fish in the lake are pretty dark. Also, you catch a bunch that have the spots all over, even their belly. I caught one last time I went that was the same color all over. I've never caught any yellow ones out of this particular lake. I think it may be b/c the water is so clear all the time. I've never seen it the least bit muddy in the 6yrs I've been fishing it.

My rivers are mostly sand bottom - except for all of the submerged logs and trees and such. It looks a lot like standard builders sand, and when it's wet and with the tanic water, the sand looks yellow. I would bet that's why the flatheads are yellow a lot of times.

Nice Flat, but I'm afraid that grin will have to be surgically removed!

Got to give yeppa credit for a humurous post! I caught last night a 5-6 pd and a 3 pd flathead the small one was evenly yellow and the 5-6 was dark brown with tons of black spots it was neat to hold them next to each other I caught them from the same set of rock too. It was a decent night but I need to find the bigger fish before the season is over!
